Field Technician – California

Job Summary: ECHO Power Engineering has an opportunity for an experienced (non-manager) Field Technician looking for career growth and new opportunities. The Field Technician will take part in all aspects of a substation or power generation plant design or redesign, from conception to in-service. This position requires weekly travel, as work takes place in substations and power plants throughout California.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for assessment, retrofit design and implementation of protective relay work for medium/high voltage substations and power plants, including protective settings, testing commissioning, development of commissioning documents, and performing field commissioning. Responsibilities also include design, and commissioning of process instrumentation and controls. 

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Good working knowledge of all power generation and transmission (G&T) equipment, metering and controls, instrument transformer circuits, relays and relay settings/logic, generator excitation systems, transformers, G&T protective principles and functionality, and testing procedures for G&T equipment are required.
  • Good working knowledge with instrumentation, process control, and transmitters, (pressure, flow, temperature).
  • Experience with programming and commissioning of HART based transmitters.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC’s) fundamentals, wiring, and troubleshooting is desired.
  • Experience with basic 480V motor controls.
  • Experience installing and commissioning equipment in power plants and substations.
  • Ability to complete as-builts for completed projects in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to assist in development and execution of commissioning work plans required for a project.
  • Must be a self-motivated technician who is equally comfortable in the field or at a computer.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with customers in a variety of settings
  • Strong computer skills in all Microsoft platforms, and some AutoCAD.
  • Experience with various testing platform hardware and software is required.
  • Strong work ethic
  • Must live in California and be willing to travel for design data gathering and on-site installation and testing (must be able to travel at least 50-75% of the time)

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma required, BSEE preferred
  • 5+ years recent and relevant experience with electrical testing, installation, and commissioning
  • NICET certification preferred

Job Location:

  • The corporate office location is Clarksville, TN but this will be a work from home position when not working in the field. Candidate should live in one of the following California counties: Sonoma, Lake, Napa.

Pay and Benefits:

  • Salary: $56,000 – $100,000 (based on education and experience)

Field Engineer – California

Job Summary: Echo Power Engineering has an opportunity for an experienced Power Engineer looking for career growth and new opportunities. The Field Engineer will take part in all aspects of power plant and substation retrofit projects, from conception to in-service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing design and installation for complex equipment upgrade projects in power plants and medium/high voltage substations
  • Produce design drawings
  • Specify and order equipment
  • Develop relays settings
  • Day-to-day electrician support during installs
  • Develop commissioning documents
  • Perform field commissioning
  • Travel to customer sites to gather information for each design and to assist with installation and testing of equipment (remainder of work to be completed from home)

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • 2+ years recent and relevant experience with substation electrical design, installation, and commissioning
  • NICET Certification in Electrical Testing, or the ability to achieve NICET Certification within 1 year of hire.

  • Salary: $85,000 – $120,000 (determined based on education and experience)

Project Architect – Nationwide

Job Summary: Echo Power Engineering has an opportunity for a self-motivated Architect looking for career growth and new opportunities. This architect will be an integral part of a multi-discipline team designing hospital renovation and expansion projects. The position requires strong field experience for project data gathering and assessment along with equally strong ability to document designs accurately and effectively via drawings and specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field assessments to determine customer needs
  • Communicate field assessments via written reports and field sketches
  • Complete the architectural design efforts from project initiation through construction ready documents
  • Develop and/or modify specifications to meet project requirements
  • Work as part of a multi-discipline team to complete project designs
  • Communicate with vendors and review submittals
  • Communication with customers and AHJs as needed

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Must have the ability to work on multiple, complex projects at the same time
  • Must possess strong communication skills with the ability to interact with customers in a variety of settings
  • Must be able to represent ECHO to customers, AHJs, and subcontractors
  • Thorough knowledge of national standards for hospital design work
  • Demonstrated ability to apply National codes and standards to real-world situations
  • Broad, basic understanding of mechanical systems, structural engineering, electrical requirements, etc.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, including its advanced features, is required;
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly
  • Must display strong leadership skills and have a high work ethic
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture
  • Five years of recent and relevant experience designing and managing highly technical projects
  • Professional licensure required

  • The office location is Clarksville, TN but this will be a work from home position. Candidate should live within one hour of a commercial airport, preferably in the eastern half of the United States.

Low Voltage Design Engineer – Nationwide

Job Summary: Echo Power Engineering has an opportunity for an experienced Electrical Field and Design Engineer looking for career growth and new opportunities. The Design Engineer is responsible for assessment and design of electrical power systems from 480V to 15kv. This position requires regular travel across the United States, up to 50% of the time.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze field data to develop unique solutions
  • Perform and complete low voltage design work
  • Participate in field work as necessary
  • Maintain thorough understanding of project details and needs and work with team members to ensure proper communication throughout duration of each project

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of NEC and other NFPA standards
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Microstation, and/or other technical CAD packages is required
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact in a team environment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines 
  • Must be a self-motivated engineer who is equally comfortable in the field or at a computer
  • Must display strong leadership skills and have a strong work ethic

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
